JOB SUMMARY: The SAN/Storage Specialist is a senior member of the Information Technology Group responsible for evaluating existing systems and technologies, and determining strategic solutions to stated business challenges focusing on the Enterprise Storage infrastructure. Position requires research, testing, and evaluation of new hardware and software that improve and enhance our Enterprise Storage and Backup Infrastructure reliability, availability and serviceability. This individual will collaborate with both internal and external partners to ensure technology decisions fit within the overall architecture. Day to day activities include storage provisioning, performance tuning, adding volumes, scripting for automation of tasks, assigning ports, error tracking, data movement, software configurations, product evaluation, message delivery system and addressing compatibility issues.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Design, develop, and implement hardware/software solutions that enhance or extend the enterprise SAN and NAS Storage infrastructure • Develop and produce capacity and performance management reports and associated recommendations for both storage and backup infrastructures. • Evaluate emerging technologies in the areas of storage area networking, storage subsystems, and develop the associated strategic roadmap, ensuring that current and planned technical solutions are compatible with the company’s business needs and strategic objectives. • Provide technical expertise and assistance to other groups within IT. • Develop and maintain the release schedule ensuring that all hardware and software in the SAN, Storage are on current versions and patch levels. • Perform SAN Zoning, SAN Provisioning, LUN Masking and Disk Allocation, Storage Replication functions. • Perform storage encryption configuration and operations with Brocade Encryption Switch and Netapp Data Fort appliances • Collect host and storage hardware configuration data and keep documentation current. • Advanced troubleshooting of backup and restore failures using vendor documentation, knowledgebase, or support services • Develop disaster recovery procedures and policies and provide guidance for improvements. • Review and update standard configurations and procedures based on best practices. • Perform primary contact interface with vendors as needed. • As specifications are developed and agreed upon, provide deployment support for new system implementations. Assist with and update standards and documentation when needed. • Perform technical troubleshooting to solve complex technical problems. • Document all solutions to assist in handling future similar problems.

QUALIFICATIONS: • Ideal candidate is a Senior SAN and Storage Architect, with a minimum of 5, preferably 8 or more years experience in successful deployment of SAN technology solutions. • Proven history of storage deployment and operations with SAN and NAS storage solutions from 3Par and EMC • Experienced with the deployment of SAN fabric solutions with Brocade departmental and director class switch infrastructure • Experienced with storage encryption solutions with Netapp Data Fort and Brocade Encryption Switches • Working knowledge of storage management tools; Brocade DFCM, Netapp SANscreen • Proven history of deploying large projects with accurate estimates of time frames, resource requirements and cost. • Ability to communicate well with user groups, technical organizations, and management teams utilizing strong presentation skills combined with solid technical background. • Ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of future industry trends in technology. • Strong knowledge of the design and management of various network protocols, topologies, databases and heterogeneous operating systems including UNIX and Windows. • Strong knowledge of integration with multiple technologies, architectures and operational standards. • Possesses working knowledge of database management systems, with emphasis on Oracle on ASM and Veritas file systems, and MS SQL Server • College degree required -- preferably in computer science, business administration, mathematics or the base sciences • Able to work as a team player in a collaborative environment.
