PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • System Resource Management: designs and supports server and storage systems, system architecture, and supporting software, to include installation, configuration management, troubleshooting, research and testing, system health monitoring, performance analysis, pre-failure alerting, disaster recovery planning and documentation. • Electronic Messaging duties include management and troubleshooting of electronic mail routers. • Performs DNS administration duties including configuration, upgrades, and troubleshooting. • TCP/IP Functions and Client Services duties include management and troubleshooting of FTP, HTTP, Telnet, and SSH protocols. • Hardware and Firmware Management duties as they pertain to server and related hardware components, to include on-line and spare parts inventory control, installation and configuration, management and troubleshooting, new technology research and testing, system health monitoring, performance analysis, pre-failure alerting, disaster recovery planning and exercise, firmware upgrade maintenance, pre-purchase evaluation, rack space management, design, and warranty repair coordination. • Reviews, analyzes, develops, installs, and modifies computer operating systems. Analyzes and resolves problems associated with operating systems. Detects, diagnoses, and reports related problems. • Task Automation: designs, develops, and implements software packages for UNIX Server Administration. Troubleshoots debugs and implements software code. Utilizes knowledge of standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field (i.e., UNIX shell scripting, C, C++, HTML, CGI and JavaScript). • System Security duties include system security auditing, breach searching, threat evaluation, anti-virus management, and enforcement of system access policies. • Provide, as necessary, support for the Development, Staging, and Production Environments. • Assist in performing SAN Zoning, SAN Provisioning, LUN masking and disk allocation functions. • Collect hosts and storage hardware configuration data and keep documentation current. • Advanced troubleshooting of hardware and software failures (server, SAN or backup) using vendor documentation, knowledgebase or support services. • Provides extended business hours support as needed for on-call rotation. • Implements continuous improvement measures. • Assists in release and migration planning. • Provides regular status reports. • Software installations, upgrades and patch/update installs. • Monitoring and tuning application and database servers and storage for performance. • Adheres to technical standards. • Performs related duties as required.
